Early afternoon we headed out, with a fairly high cloud cover. It rained about .25 inches last night. We had, or maybe I had the idea to ride to the top of Rock Creek and hit the great singletrack up there. The climb just to get to the trail head was quite a grind. By looking at the terrain map it looks to be about 2500 vertical feet (we haven't upgraded to the altimeter computer yet). Most of the serious climbing isn't done until you are on Rock Creek. The last half mile gets really steep once you pass the gate. It was pretty hard to approximate the trail on the map. I'm pretty sure I left out about 8 switchbacks on my quick scribbling. There is also some vertical feet on that trail as well. There was quite a bit of wind fall on the trail. Large trees and branches. I'm sure those who maintain it do not thing anyone would be crazy enough to use it this time of year. It is a great trail and well worth the ride up there. First section of the trail is very rocky- the remaining part of the trail is great with fantastic switchbacks, little climbs and technical portions with very limited trail size.
